My thoughts on the Trayvon Martin Tragedy: First and foremost, RIP young man. Your death has sparked an uproar from people of all shades and colors, demanding justice for the injustice done to you. You’d be proud.
I want to touch on appearances because A LOT of this has to deal with the way things look. We all as humans, given the senses, use them to better understand our environment. We judge people everyday on the things they wear and the way they look and we immediate make assumptions on a variety of things. Its not a bad thing at all, as sometimes these senses and the assumption made from them guide the decisions we make, positively. Its when our senses are wrong, that they get bad flack(EX. Don’t judge a book by its cover..and similar sayings) True true…but the problem is that THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE TRAYVON MARTIN TRAGEDY. Geraldo Rivera believes that the way a certain people(Minorities in particular,Black and Latinos)dress is practically asking for trouble, in this instance, asking to be shot and killed. “They shot you because you had your hood up son. Parents: Cut the hoods off your black and latino kids’ hoodies and you’ll save their lives” NO Geraldo, hoodies don’t indicate crime. Hoodies don’t indicate drug usage(as Zimmerman apparently gathered that tragic day. Geraldo basically made light of that young man’s death…because the hoodie was to blame, because wearing hoodies makes us a target. NONSENSE. But the one thing that it does show is Geraldo’s acceptance of the white majority’s racial attitudes. George Zimmerman acted on his racial attitudes, and used his environment(the things he observed that day(AND FLORIDA LAW) to JUSTIFY the decision he made, which was to track and kill an African American teen he didn’t recognize. Geraldo’s tweets did make me start thinking though. Some people are QUICK to try to downplay the role race plays in our society today and are QUICK to say that that those racist days are over. Not at all…We practically JUST got voting rights as a people… And NO, the same oppressive legislation doesn’t exist today, but the attitudes and feelings toward minorities are still alive. AND some of the loop holes like Florida’s Stand your Ground Law exists. Its crazy how we are living in THEIR world. We must live with THEIR actions, THEIR decisions, THEIR legislation, THEIR racism. And we’re expected to lay down and EAT it. On the extreme end of the spectrum..Living in the south, within the Conservative Bible Belt, We seriously live amongst people who hate us. People who believe that “Under God, the South will rise again” They have a culture based off of shade thrown by their ancestors who DID NOT want to end free oppression and exploitation of a people. A conservative culture was created, based off of the remnants of an awful war and a horrible past. They proudly fly their flags and wear that banner of pain on their clothes. Now hypothetically speaking, what if SOMEONE OF MINORITY DESCENT saw that symbol/banner on a shirt and said “Uh there’s a real suspicious guy…This guy looks like he’d up to no good..” Would he be lying?….Just saying… and if something popped off would he be wrong??…just saying…
I’m just disgusted at what happened. Disgusted that George Zimmerman might go free…Disgusted that things haven’t changed…and saddened that they probably wont anytime soon..Done for now…

My biggest issue with you is the fact that you think on the tip of your tongue..And I’m not talkin’ baby thoughts…I’m talkin’ potential game changers. If you feel it, boom…its said, fuck the response because you cant help how you feel…then you “bite your tongue”…I just want you to think and sometimes put yaself in my shoes. It’s all I ask…If I was as half as revelational as you are, you wouldn’t like it…
